| PROTECT YOURSELF |
You don’t have to breathe secondhand smoke. Learn to protect yourself from more than 4000 chemicals.
Protect yourself at home and in the car: Your house should be your refuge from the dangers and stress of the world. If family members smoke, ask them no to smoke around you, at home or in the car. Tell them you want to stay safe from the 4,000 dangerous toxins in secondhand smoke. Encourage them to quit altogether but be positive about it. The nicotine in tobacco is addictive and quitting may be difficult. But with encouragement and help they can quit for life, then you won't have to worry about secondhand smoke in your home or the family car.
Protect yourself at school: The best way to protect yourself at school is to work to make your school tobacco free. It's gonna take work and organization but it can be done. Talk to the school administration. Get a petition of students, faculty and staff members who want to make the school tobacco free. Go to school board meetings. Get the media on your side. Write letters to the local Paper or call the local TV and radio stations and tell them about your cause.
Protect yourself at work: Of course the easiest way to protect yourself at work is to work where tobacco use isn't allowed. Unfortunately, that isn't always possible. Talk to your boss or to the owner. Help them understand the dangers of secondhand smoke and how it costs their business in employee sick days, higher insurance costs and lost revenue.
